One of the first cars we restored was a 1929 Austin-Healey London Taxi Cab the owner had built into a street rod.

What year were we established?

After working in several shops and owning a small shop in Crestwood with a partner, Vince opened Modern Carriage Werks in February of 1993.

We were first to repair the Ford GT

Ford brought the GT back in 2005 and less than 24 hours after purchasing one, one of our customers opened up the throttle and ran it off the road. As tragic as that may seem, we were lucky enough to be the first to repair this car along with the Head of Ford’s Special Vehicle Team. It was truly an amazing experience for all of us.

Carbon Fiber components

Manufacturers are continuing to reinvent the steel used in creating vehicles. That means we need to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to learning about these new steels and how to work with and repair them.

We’re preparing for structural carbon fiber components, as well as implementing repair services on new steel technology such as Dual Phase steel, Complex Phase steel, and Transformation-induced Plasticity steel (T.R.I.P. steel)

Aluminum Welding

Ever since Ford introduced the aluminum-bodied F-150 in 2015, aluminum has become a collision-repair industry buzzword. Two years prior, Modern Carriage was already a fully fledged aluminum body repair shop.

We were one of the very first shops in the U.S. to invest in the specialized training and equipment required to facilitate aluminum repairs.

Repairing collision-damaged aluminum vehicles requires different procedures, techniques and equipment than are necessary to fix traditional steel vehicles, and Modern Carriage has been a leader in this field long before it was popular.

Waterborne Technology

Waterborne paints are environmentally friendly, without sacrificing quality or performance, and PPG’s Envirobase High Performance waterborne base coat system is regarded as the NO. 1, best-selling technology for the entire class of waterborne paints.

Years before major body shops in North America began experimenting with waterborne paints, we were already using it on a daily basis. With PPG as our paint-supply partner, Modern Carriage was one of the very first shops to implement this technology in the USA.

The Future of Welding

Welding has been around since the Bronze Age, evolving over time with technology. Welding technology has a huge impact on metalworking and product engineering and is constantly changing and using new technologies available.

Modern Carriage blends traditional with more advanced welding methods. Plastic welding, Squeeze Type Resistance welding, and newer technologies such as M.I.G. brazing are some of the methods we employ at our shop. As new methods are discovered, we begin experimenting with them to master their techniques, long before they become popular.

We are always researching, learning, and looking for the next big thing, and we have fully mastered all techniques available for bringing your vehicle back to its original factory condition.
